Letter From The President

Hello!

My name is Jerrika Alston, and it is my absolute honor to serve as the 16th President of the Junior League of Greenville, NC.

Founded in 2010 as the Junior Women’s Association and officially joining the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) in 2017, our League may be small—but we are mighty. We are deeply committed to meeting the needs of our local community while empowering women to lead with purpose and passion.

AJLI continues to champion the theme: “Developing Women to Do a World of Good.” For the 2025–2026 League year, I am proud to introduce our local tagline:

“If Not You, Then Who.”

This is more than a slogan—it’s a call to action. A charge to our members and our community to take ownership of the change we wish to see. In these unprecedented times for nonprofit organizations, it is up to each of us to pour into our missions, uplift our neighbors, and invest in the future of our communities.

Together, we can rise to the challenge. Together, we can do a world of good.

While we are deeply committed to the mission of developing women, we recognize that this work empowers us to do a world of good—in our own community, across North Carolina, and as part of a global movement through the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), which now includes nearly 300 leagues in six countries.

Our members actively engage in meaningful volunteer opportunities that strengthen

Greenville and Pitt County, including:

  • Backpack Buddies: providing weekend meals for local students in need
  • Fall Fundraiser: we are returning to a large-scale fundraising event this year! Stay tuned for more details about this exciting evening that you won’t want to miss.
  • Community Crossroads Center: cooking and serving breakfast for shelter residents
  • Beast Philanthropy Warehouse: packing boxes to support families across the region
  • Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC: bagging fresh produce for distribution
  • Ripe for Revival Mobile Market: welcoming shoppers and supporting food access initiatives

Each collaboration reflects our strategic focus on service and leadership. By working together, we’re laying the foundation for a more resilient and inclusive tomorrow.

There are countless ways to serve your community, and The Junior League of Greenville, NC proudly hosts a variety of events and fundraisers that reflect our commitment to voluntarism, leadership development, and lasting community impact.

These events not only raise critical funds for our initiatives but also foster connection, awareness, and joy throughout Pitt County. This year’s events include:

AJLI's PURPOSE

The purpose of The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. is to add value to its member Leagues in their fulfillment of The Junior League Mission.

THE POWER OF ASSOCIATION

Founded in 1901 by New Yorker and social activism pioneer Mary Harriman, the Junior Leagues are charitable nonprofit organizations of women, developed as civic leaders, making a demonstrable impact on their communities. In 1921 the Leagues joined forces as an association, which is today known as The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., in order to bolster their power and amplify their voice through shared knowledge and common causes.

True to their mission, today’s League members work at the forefront of social reform, tackling the toughest and most critical issues of the day—including childhood nutrition and obesity, human trafficking, foster care, juvenile justice, teen self-esteem, cybercrimes, literacy and the environment, among others—for the purpose of enhancing the social, cultural and political fabric of civil society.

As a result of this work, The Junior League—and the more than 125,000 women in over 295 communities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Mexico who comprise its ranks—has amassed an archive of tangible results and a reputation as thoughtful and influential change agents dedicated to the public good.

Today AJLI is a charitable nonprofit organization that provides continuity and support, guidance, and leadership development opportunities to its member Leagues. Through regional, national and international meetings, comprehensive resources, customized consultations, and League and member benefits, it supports its member Leagues in the fulfillment of The Junior League’s Mission. AJLI is governed by a Board of Directors, which is accountable to the Leagues and comprised of women who are members of the Junior Leagues in their communities. The Association's New York City-based staff, under the leadership of the Executive Director, provides services to Leagues that support the established goals.
